Fighting Shotgun
Tactical Shotgun I:   6 Hours:  Cost:  $175

The shotgun is an under-estimated and under-utilized defensive weapon, yet very efficient and devastating in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. This course is for the student that has little or no experience with a shotgun, or is looking to enhance those skills already learned. This course is designed to teach the student the fundamentals of fighting with a shotgun.

Topics include:

 
  1. Fundamentals of Marksmanship.
  2. Loading: Tactical and speed.
  3. Failure to fire.
  4. After action assessments.
  5. Barricades and the use of Cover and Concealment.
  6. Shooting positions, regular and realistic.
  7. Basic Close Quarter engagements.
  8. Multiple targets.
  9. Verbal commands.
  10. Shotgun retention and disarming techniques.
 
300 rounds of quality shotgun ammunition will be required for this course.  (100 Slug, 200 Buck Shot).  Additional rounds can be fired during the course if you wish.  If you bring more and time allows, you can shoot more.

The following is a minimal list of equipment that is required for the student to bring to any 'live fire' defensive marksmanship course.  
 
  1. A good Defensive Shotgun.  Either a pump action or semi-auto.  Pump actions are more reliable.  Remington 870, Mossburg 500 and the Benelli Nova are recommended.
  2. Quality Sling.
  3. High quality 12 gauge shotgun ammunition.
  4. Quality Side Saddle.
  5. Quality Eye and Ear Protection.  Extra batteries for electronic ear protection is recommended.
  6. Baseball cap style hat with brim.
  7. Appropriate outdoor weather attire, as instruction is outside and will not be cancelled due to weather conditions. Boots are recommended.
  8. During hot weather, sun block is recommended.
  9. Shoes or boots that tie. ( No Slip-ons, High Heels, or Sandals)
  10. Military Style pants or jeans with cargo pockets, or a small quality bag with shoulder style strap, for carrying extra ammunition to the target area.
  11. Snacks and beverages are allowed during training. There will be a cooler with bottled water available during each class free of charge to the student. There will be a 30-45 minute break for lunch. It is strongly recommended that students bring there lunch.
